South African top television and radio presenter Pearl Shongwe has sadly passed away.
Reports have it that the 35-year-old news anchor and Daily Thetha co-host was found dead at her flat.
The sad occarance happened on Tuesday afternoon at her house in Waterfall North of Johannesburg.
Shongwe family has now confirmed the death of the radio show host.
In a statement by a family representative to the media they confirmed death of the news reader but did not reveal the cause of death.
“It is with great sadness that the Shongwe family announces the untimely passing of our beloved daughter Ntombifuthi Pearl Shongwe,” reads the statement.
So far the family knows that Pearl died in her sleep and she was doscovered by her neighbours who then quickly alerted the police who attended the scene quickly.
“Our daughter was a celebrated radio broadcaster and TV presenter. Her presence will forever live on in our hearts,” read part of the statement.
Her employer, SABC has also confirmed the death of their employee.
In a tweet, the public broadcaster said, “The SABC has learned through the family of Pearl Shongwe that she has sadly passed away. The SABC extends its heartfelt condolences to the Shongwe Family,”
