Soccer Star Patrick Phungwayo now a Sangoma

A source close to the player said Phungwayo has had the calling for a while and he could no longer ignore it.

The source said: “He is a traditional healer now and there is no time for football. He could have signed for any team but couldn’t do that because he had to answer his calling.”
The source said Phungwayo has accepted that he will no longer be playing football at the highest level.
Phungwayo has been without a team since Free State stars were relegated in 2019.
The player was out of the public eye for quite a while but has recently been sharing pictures of himself and his family on Facebook. Most recently, he shared a picture of himself in his car wearing traditional healer attire.
Many of his Facebook friends acknowledged his calling and wondered if he would ever go back to playing professional football. The 32-year-old has also had a stint overseas with Greek team Panionios.
Phungwayo is still young and can still play football should he choose to go back, but until that moment comes he will continue to honour his calling.
There were reports he was still keen to continue playing football, and was looking for a team that can “put food on his table.”
Phungwayo has been without a club since his contract with Free State Stars expired at the end of June last year.
But reports suggested he could not agree financial terms with National First Division teams Mbombela United and TS Sporting who were both keen on his services during the January transfer window.
