Hawks Rubbish Ace Magashule’s warrant of arrest

Ace Magashule, the ANC’s Secretary-General and one of the most senior leaders within the ruling party , has not been issued with an arrest warrant from the Hawks, following dramatic developments late on Tuesday evening.

HAS ACE MAGASHULE BEEN SERVED WITH AN ARREST WARRANT? HAWKS SAY NO…

IOL reported that Magashule had told them he was indeed facing an arrest warrant, lamenting that his impending arrest will be ‘something Hollywood-style’. However, this article was emphatically rejected by the authorities:

“The Hawks would like to categorically distance itself from the IOL report regarding the so-called impending arrest against Ace Magashule. The DPCI view the report as a malicious intent to undermine the integrity of the organization.”
— Brigadier Hangwani Mulaudzi, Hawks Spokesperson

ANC HEAVYWEIGHT’S DUBIOUS DEALS

The news comes at a time where graft within the ANC is facing a serious reckoning. Cyril Ramaphosa, who was elected as the party’s leader on an anti-corruption ticket, had promised to clamp-down on acts of wrongdoing from senior officials. Progress had initially been slow, but following the COVID procurement scandal this winter, the wheels have started turning.

Several prominent ANC members – including Andile Lungisa and Zandile Gumede – were hit with suspensions.

In May this year, Ace Magashule was first reported to Hawks for his role in the dodgy R200m asbestos contract currently making headlines at the State Capture Inquiry. He’s also been asked to explain why his sons were able to secure a multi-million rand PPE tender at the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic.

However, we understand that no arrest warrant has been issued for the ANC SG at any point overnight. This is a developing story, and we’ll have more updates as they come through.

#Hawks spokesperson Hangwani Mulaudzi has just confirmed that an @IOL report detailing alleged arrest warrant for #AceMagashule is fake news. “It’s fake news sir, maybe there’s another Hawks we (are) not aware of.
