Presidential candidate, Joe Biden has announced that his running candidate for the Vice presidency will be California Senator, Kamala Harris.
She has made history as the first black woman to be considered as a running mate for the post and should Biden win at the polls, she would be the first Black female vice president.
Kamala took to Twitter to show her support for Biden and her willingness to take up the post.
Joe Biden can unify the American people because he’s spent his life fighting for us. And as president, he’ll build an America that lives up to our ideals.
I’m honored to join him as our party’s nominee for Vice President, and do what it takes to make him our Commander-in-Chief.” she tweeted
With the spotlight shining on her, there are a couple of things some might not have known about her.
1.She is currently 55 years old and she was born on the 20th of October in 1964
2.She is of Indian and African descent. Her mother Shyamala Gopalan was scientist and came from India to the US.
Her dad, Donald Harris, is a Stanford University Emeritus Professor of Economics who came from Jamaica.
3.Her husband Douglas Emhoff is Jewish and a lawyer as well, the two met at a blind date arranged by friends and hit it off. They got married in 2014.
4.She studied at Howard University,a HBCU before proceeding to UCLA.
5.She is a former attorney General of California and before that she was a district attorney of San Francisco.
6.She is also an author, in 2009 she wrote Smart on Crime: A Career Prosecutor’s Plan to Make Us Safer” and then went on to write her memoir, titled, The Truths We Hold: An American Journey.
