FBI investigating Zimbabwe Influence In Black Lives Matter Protests
The FBI Director Christopher Wray has indicated that the FBI is probing the possibility of foreign influence or foreign interference in the violent nationwide protest in the wake of George Floyd’s death in police custody in America.
Speaking exclusively with Fox News’s Bret Baier on Wednesday, Wray’s comments affirmed the National security adviser Robert O’Brien’s earlier remarks that Zimbabwe was part of the foreign adversaries attempting to influence disruption in the US through state-controlled media and social media spreading misinformation.
“We have certainly seen in the past a variety of foreign adversaries looking to amplify controversy in this country and they use state media, they use social media, some of that is through propaganda, some of that is through disinformation, some that is through just fake information,” Wray said in an interview.
While much wasn’t said about Zimbabwe’s influence, the FBI director revealed that the bureau had over 2000 active investigations that link back to Zimbabwe’s all-weather friends – China’s economic and social espionage in that country.
In Robert O’Brien’s words with ABC last month, Zimbabwe was amongst America’s big rivalries, Russia, China and Iran who are thought to have had influence in the recent ongoing protests in America.
Thousands of Americans took to the streets to protest systematic racism in law enforcement agencies after the death of an African American man in police custody last month.
The demonstrations turned out violent and destructive in recent weeks. Businesses were looted and burnt, while statues of influential American icons were toppled.
Leading the US government to throw the blame on foreign actors. Though the effectiveness of their involvement is questionable especially after noting the history of similar unrests in the US — civil unrests are initiated by the government’s disregard of civil rights.
Zimbabwe denied gloating about the American chaos in any form.
However, earlier this month the ruling party sought to hold demonstrations in the US Embassy against racism and discrimination in the US.
This also led to a diplomatic showdown after Zimbabwe’s foreign affairs minister S. B. Moyo confronted the US ambassador to Zimbabwe concerning the civil unrests in both countries.
Debates and programs have also been held in Zimbabwe’s state-controlled media concerning George Floyd’s death and the US government’s discriminatory policies.
It may be through such that the US FBI probes foreign influence – and/or understands may be Zimbabwe’s involvement that fuels the Black Lives Matter protests.
